HYPERBALLIN' Guide: Download, Controls & Speedrun Tips

Everything you need to start the HYPERBALLIN' playtest: the safe official download, controls, running it on Mac or Linux, and how to chase Diamond rank.

What is HYPERBALLIN'? It's a high-speed 3D precision platformer by RedEmberGames. The floor is the enemy, so you leap from rolling marble to marble, chaining wall-jumps, air-dashes and teleports to hit faster times. The playtest is free and Windows-only. Download it only from the official itch.io page. There's no official browser version.

How to download HYPERBALLIN' safely

  1. Open the official itch.io page and click Download Now.
  2. In Name your own price, enter 0 (or tip the developer), then choose No thanks, just take me to the downloads.
  3. Download the newest Hyperballin Alpha rc…rar file. Higher numbers are newer (for example rc0305 is newer than rc0304).
  4. Extract the .rar with 7-Zip or WinRAR, then run project_garden.exe.

Avoid "play online" or "unblocked" copies. They aren't made by the developer, they may be outdated or modified, and they don't support the game. The official build is the only one that gets patches.

HYPERBALLIN' controls

The game doesn't show a tutorial at first. Press X in game to open the control list. Here's what players report from the current playtest:

KeyWhat it does
WASD + mouseMove and aim the camera
SpaceJump off the marble you're riding, and wall-jump
ShiftSprint while on a marble; in the air it fires your air ability (dash)
CtrlDrop / force yourself down
QHold for the first-person camera
XShow the controls

Keys may change between playtest versions. If something doesn't match, the X screen in your build wins. Mac players have asked for rebinding; it isn't in the playtest yet.

On a Mac, Chromebook or phone?

HYPERBALLIN' needs Windows. For a quick marble fix anywhere, try Marble Rush, our own free 3D marble time trial that runs in the browser. It has a new Daily course every day, medals and streaks.

Play HYPERBALLIN' on Mac or Linux

Mac (CrossOver or Whisky)

  1. Download and extract the .rar from the official page.
  2. In CrossOver: Install → Install an unlisted application, choose project_garden.exe, and install it into a new bottle (for example "hyperballin"). Whisky works the same way and is free.
  3. Launch from the bottle. Players report it runs smoothly on Apple Silicon this way.

Linux / Steam Deck (Proton)

  1. In Steam: Add a Game → Add a Non-Steam Game and pick project_garden.exe.
  2. Right-click it, then Properties → Compatibility, and tick "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" (Proton).
  3. Plain Wine also works for many players.

Game modes and roadmap

The playtest has Marathon: clear a big set of levels back-to-back as fast as possible, ending at the Dominus. The developer has announced these modes:

Community and updates

Patch notes are posted on the itch.io devlog. The newest playtest builds are rc0304 and rc0305 (October 19, 2026). The developer runs a Discord clip challenge where the best clips win keys to the full game; the invite link is on the official page.

FAQ

Is HYPERBALLIN' free?

Yes. The developer says the playtest is free forever, and tipping at checkout is optional.

Can I play HYPERBALLIN' online or unblocked?

No. There is no official browser version. Online copies aren't from the developer. For a marble game that runs in a browser, try Marble Rush.

Is it on Steam?

Not yet. The playtest is on itch.io; players hope for a Steam release with the full game.

Why does it run badly on my PC?

It's an alpha. Update your GPU driver, close background apps, lower the resolution, and make sure you're on the newest rc build.

What music does it use?

The soundtrack leans breakcore / jungle / drum and bass. Some players hit copyright claims when uploading clips with it, so mute the music in the settings before recording if you plan to post.
